About the Owners
Laurence Bowes
Addicted to hospitality in all its forms. Laurence cut his teeth in 5* hotels in America before managing the Cafe de Paris in Leicester Square. In 2004 he moved to Spain to launch his own restaurant business on the beach but the draw of London was too much. On returning to the UK Laurence helped open the first 4 Jamie's Italian restaurants before moving in to food focused pubs as the youngest appointed operations manager for Youngs. As an operations professional Laurence has been fortunate to experience the pleasure of working for some leading businesses in London including Ignite Group (W hotels concessions, Boujis, Bumkpin among other brands) as Group Operations Manager and Hush as their Operations Director.
Laurence retired London life to move to the country and start a family, a business and buy a dog. Now with a successful pub and hotel group in the portfolio Laurence also consultants and supports local businesses proving his invaluable experience in grass roots operations working in a number of roles around management, brand development training and consultancy.
In my personal life I have been an Army reservist for 12 years reaching the rank of Captain which has also afforded me the ability to travel extensively. Africa has a special place in my heart and whilst training in Kenya I decided to sponsor a school in our late fathers name which has now developed into three schools in India, Peru and Kenya. On my last trip to Kenya I also took part in the ForRangers Ultra, a 230km marathon run across the animal reserves of central Kenya. I am a huge foodie and love to travel so this works for me perfectly to be able to travel, commit to charitable causes, discover new cuisines and find time for the odd vineyard tour.
Daniel Bowes
Daniel trained as a hairdresser, a passion he still holds. His natural ability to converse, make people at ease and entertain is perfectly transferable to the hospitality industry. After moving back from Spain it was easy for us both to pursue hospitality and Daniel moved up the ranks to Training Manager and Openings Manager for major national restaurant and pub companies. Moving into Central London commuting became easier and Daniel pursued a career in event management for fine dining and Michelin listed businesses, namely The Cinnamon Club in Westminster. As you would expect this once more developed into a business management role across the expansion of the business across numerous sites.
Daniel is now leading the people development, marketing solutions and operations of both our pubs and is credited with the success of the Royal Oak particularly, the challenge of turning around that business was massive and Daniel managed it superbly. Ingratiating himself with the community and the area ensuring that the business first and foremost is as successful as it can be in preparation for sale.
In his private life Daniel shares Laurences passion for travel, food and good conversation. We are naturally at home in our own company, with our dogs or in the company of friends and family.
